Torreira is likely to become Unai Emery's fourth signing as Arsenal manager since joining at the start of the summer.

Following the defeat, Torreira was asked about whether his move to Arsenal had been postponed whilst he competed for his country.

Uruguayan midfielder Lucas Torreira has spoken out about his pending transfer to Arsenal after leaving the rest of his teammates and flying to London to complete a medical.

Arsenal was reported to have offered a chance for Torreira to conduct the medicals while he was in Russian Federation playing the World Cup.

The midfielder flew-out to Russian Federation with the Uruguay squad without resolving his future but Football London claim Arsenal agreed a £26.5m deal with Sampdoria and have already settled on terms over a four-year contract.

"Although Lucas Torreira is expected to be Arsenal's last major first-team recruit this summer, Unai Emery has been keen to sign a young prospect after missing out on PSG's Yacine Adli", says the Metro.

Torreira was a key part of the South-American team who were knocked out by France on Friday.

The Gunners have agreements in place with their Serie A counterparts.

The enigmatic Sampdoria star is not the only midfielder on Arsenal's wishlist either, with reports indicating that the Gunners have opened talks with Sevilla over a deal to sign Steven N'Zonzi.

The Arsenal players not involved at the World Cup reported for pre-season training last week.

However, there is unlikely to be any progress on a deal until France's World Cup campaign comes to an end.
