Australia's Aaron Finch smashed his own record for the highest individual score in a T20 global on Tuesday, blasting 172 off 76 balls in a tri-series match against Zimbabwe in Harare.

On the small Harare ground, Finch took attack to the opposition bowlers and struck 10 sixes and 16 fours in his innings.

His innings at Harare Sports Club came from only 76 balls and included 10 sixes and 16 fours.

In the process, he registered the highest individual score in T20I cricket, breaking his own record.

Finch continued his rich vein of form as he combined with opening partner D'Arcy Short to put on a 223-run stand - the highest partnership in T20I history.

Australia´s Aaron Finch smashed his own record for the highest individual score in a Twenty20 global on Tuesday, blasting 172 off 76 balls in a tri-series match against Zimbabwe in Harare.

Short was out for 46 with four balls left in the innings, while Finch was dismissed two balls later in a rare case of hitting his own wicket. The right hander scored 50 runs from 22 balls before bringing up his second T20I hundred in 50 balls. It was rather fitting that Finch bettered his own record of 156 runs with a six by mauling Chris Mpofu over extra cover. Currently, Chris Gayle holds the record for the highest score in T20s with the West Indian scoring 175 runs in the 2013 Indian Premier League.

"I've got myself to blame for that", Finch said. It's coming on quite nicely.

A day after leading his team from the front to a big win over the No.1 T20I side - Pakistan, Aaron Finch ran through the record books with a stunning knock. "The wicket's very good as we know the ball travels here", he said following the knock.

172 - This is the highest score by any batsman in T20Is. "I took the strike from (D'Arcy) Short a bit, but that kind of innings for him will also help him".
